SAMADHI: Integration

The eighth and final limb of yoga, known as samadhi, integration, bliss or peace. All the previous yoga practices prepare the body, mind, and spirit for feeling wholeness and peace, and this limb is really the true definition of yoga. You may slip into this peaceful state of yoga all the time in yoga class. This peaceful state will help with sleep but also help with focus, attention, concentration and having more fun when awake.

Are you always at peace? Do your friends call you a bliss bunny? Never ruffled by the ups and downs of life, such as gridlock traffic, rude people and turbulence on a cheap flight? If this describes you, you exist in the last limb of yoga, pure peace. The ancient yogis had a lot of levels of samadhi, some even more advanced and requiring even more practice, but for us we will just call this limb pure peace.

In each of the Living the 8 Limbs of Yoga books I discuss this limb in detail for that age group. I think young children experience bliss a lot but pre-teens, not so much. Many people catch glimpses of this peace in daily life. Like so many things, it is natural, but elusive. We can’t really chase it but when it arrives we feel pure, divine grace.
